The Heart of a Lion

Choosing to give birth at home is usually more to do with feelings than statistics. Study’s found that for low risk women in the United States, planned home births are as safe as hospital births, and accomplished with much less medical intervention, compared with low risk hospital births. At Crowning Midwifery, we follow the Midwifery Model of Care. As midwives, we offer the same care schedule you would receive with an OBGYN. The difference is we only serve low-risk women.

Our services follow a concierge model which allows your midwife to spend more one on one time with you (and your partner). We emphasize whole foods, nutrition, homeopathy, aromatherapy and herbal solutions, while readily equipped to administer pharmaceutical treatments when necessary.  Holistic measures are always our first choice.

Your prenatal care may begin as soon as you realize you may be pregnant and routine visits with the midwife begin at about 10-12 weeks with an appointment every 4 weeks. Once  you reach 28 weeks, your appointments will come every 2 weeks, and at 36 weeks, you will meet with the midwife every week until delivery. During labor, your vital signs will be checked and the baby’s heartbeat will be monitored with a handheld fetal doppler to ensure that things are progressing smoothly and safely. After the baby arrives, we typically stay for 2-3 hours, making sure everyone is stable and healthy and that the baby is latching well a head to toe newborn exam will be performed. Your after delivery care will continue throughout the six week postpartum period with multiple visits to ensure the well-being of you and your baby, with appointments 24-48 hours after your birth, between day 5-7, a 4 week virtual wellness check in, and at 6 weeks.
